2019 Annual Conference of AHSAG

The 43rd Annual Conference of AHSAG is expected to bring together Health Service Administrators across the country to deliberate on the conference theme and other related matters regarding current national health programmes and economic policies.

Contractual agreements may be part of a wider range of projects and linked to other contracts. Contracts in our BMCs cover goods, works or services. Contracts usually have timelines and are expected to be executed within these timelines. Effective management of contracts helps in reducing inefficiencies in the execution of contracts.

The elements of an effective contract management range from planning and enforcement, establishment of roles and responsibilities, identification of risks, setting of standards and monitoring, approvals and payments all the way to review and presentation of reports on the contracts being managed.

Health Service Administrators play key roles in the chain of effective contract management by being involved in each of the essential elements of effective contract management.  Together with other health managers, they have responsibility for planning, mobilizing and efficiently managing contracts for effective implementation of health programmes in their facilities. There is therefore the need for Health Service Administrators to adequately acquaint themselves with the key ingredients and indicators of effective contract management. The Health Service Administrator’s understanding of effective contract management will ensure value for money, improve efficiency, minimize risks to various BMCs and help enhance the credibility of the procurement process.

Conference Objectives

The objectives of the 2019 AHSAG Conference are as follows:

  • Sensitize Health Service Administrators on the importance of effective contract management.
  • Ensure that Health Service Administrators understand the contracting environment.
  • Make Health Service Administrators understand the impact of amendments and variations in contract management and how to manage them.

Participation

About 350 Health Service Administrators from the Ghana Health Service, Teaching Hospitals, the Mental Health Authority, Universities, CHAG, Quasi-Government Health Institutions, HEFRA, Allied Health Professional Council, other agencies of MOH and Private Healthcare Facilities across the country are expected to participate in the Conference.
